Post by mikebarresi » Wed Feb 13, 2008 4:53 pm

Just wondering... for those of you that have got deals, what were the critique scores for those tunes.. all 10's? 9's and 10's??i've had tunes forwarded with combinations of 8's and 9's and i'm wondering if anyone has gotten deals with scores like those??thanksMike

The one song that I have been contacted on got two 7's and the rest were 8's. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the numbers as everybody's definition of a "7", "8", etc will be different. IMHO, I think that if you are consistently getting a 7 or better you are where you need to be, but if you are getting 6's or less then obviously something needs to change.-Steve

the listing clients don't see your critiques or your ratings. If they get a CD with your song on it, they know it fits what they are looking for.

Remember the corollary: A song can get all 10s and get returned because it wasn't right for the listing. The ratings are for us to see where we need improvement and what is working. Also a song could get all 10s and get forwarded and still may get no deal because it wasn't exactly right for the client, even though it got forwarded by the screener. The client is always the final arbiter.I think the best rating you can get is a forward because it was right on target for the listing. Well, maybe the second best rating because a deal is always the real benchmark.Good luck,Mazz

the numbers the ominous number system I've had the same song numbered completely differently by different screeners on different listings, so it may be too relative to take really seriously....I don't pay attention to 'marketabilty' much....I actually didn't realize I got a 4 last year and many 5's, 'til you made me look....i've sent in alot of different music to see what would get forwarded....with that said, a library still took 3 songs.....and a distribution deal is in the works(from Taxi forwards )...also one of the songs with a 5 on marketability, got all 10's with a 9 on 'marketabilty" in another listing....'production' and 'engineering' I pay attention to the numbers more...I figure even if the screener doesn't get it at all, or it's wrong for listing, they at least can let you know that recording quality is good enough...I like to see the screeners as people like me and you....we all got the stuff we like.....good luck with your music,Vicky
