Two Deals

I've just signed two Asian pieces to a music library based on a recent Dispatch listing. Still waiting on any news on the Armenian submission and the recent Burmese.I'm not sure how a jazz guitarist is coming up with all this ethnic stuff, but if it keeps getting forwarded and placed I'll keep my head in it. ( I may pass on a Polka listing, but I may submit to the 50's Cha Cha listing )Chuck

It's been at least a deal or two a week around here for quite a while. Jeez... I remember when Matto was the only forum regular with any deals. Now it's like "Matto who?". You're right Dave, it's amazing how many people are getting deals here and like somebody said on another thread, this community is probably just 1% of the whole membership. It gives you a pretty good idea of how many deals happen every week across the board/world just because of TAXI.Also noticed how most of these posts never give a shoutout to the company that makes it possible to land deals from places like Cape Girardeau. some do but not as many as you'd think. When I worked at TAXI, one of the things that kept ML up at night was people not even telling TAXI when they got a deal. Considering TAXI doesn't make any money from people getting deals and placements, you'd think more of us would cough up some props. There are still plenty of people who wonder if TAXI is real, and these posts prove it in spades, yet few of them mention TAXI by name (unless they've got an "issue"). How many of these deals would have happened if TAXI didn't exist?Look at all the other so-called independent a&r sites out there that copy TAXI. We're talking about a deal or two week from just a tiny little percentage of taxi's members, and yet, I can only remember about 2 deals in *years* from all the other sites and companies out there combined.I know it looks like I'm sucking on the ML teat, but remember, I don't work for him any more. I don't get paid to say this crap. but when I keep seeing these posts about people getitng deals and not mentioning TAXI, it makes me think we should at least mention the company that changed EVERYTHING for the little guy. Sure its the talent of the members that got the deals, but before ML's idea nobody in the industry knew they HAD talent.

@taxi: well I guess some (...ok, quite a lot) of people forget quickly HOW they get there once they've found success. maybe some part of human nature - I don't know.in the short time I'm a member (3/4 year) I was surprised that I did get 5 diffrent offers for deals - so anybody who asks me "does taxi work" already knows my answer;)

Dave,I've always been attracted to "exotic" sounds. Over the last few years there have been some great ethnic instrument sample libraries released."Asian Mystery" is mostly EthnoWorld 3 with the backround "orchestra" from the Korg OASYS."Japanese Flower" melodic instruments (Koto, Shamisen and Shakuhachi) are all from East West RA. RA has keyswitching capability, hence the tremelo on the koto and inflections on the Shakuhachi. I've developed a technique is Sonar where I'll record the melody without keyswitching, set up a second midi track, open both in staff view and add the keyswitching articulations. The keyswitching track allows me to enter the notes required and move them around to create the articulation timing.I also use MOTU Ethnic Instrument (I used this for the melodic lines in the Armenian piece I had forwarded) and an old EMU Planet Earth Module (oh, oh- dreaded hardware!!) The Emu sounds still hold up well.BTW all of the above also work well in New Age stuff.I believe East West has a sale going on right now on their older libraries, may be a good time to pick-up RA. I think this a library Mazz uses as well.Chuck
