What do you listen to, when you are not writing?
My tastes vary quite a bit. I love the Britten String Quartet #2, but I can also dig the Ramones. I like a lot of guitar music- Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Andrew York, etc. I also often listen to quite a bit of progressive rock music- ELP, Yes, King Crimson, Spock's Beard. I've even been known to enjoy a little Merle Haggard.
If I had to pick out one favorite album it would be "The Shaming of the True" by Kevin Gilbert.
This is a lesser known artist whose music I enjoy.

Looking forward to seeing (hearing) what others like.

I've had a period with professional listening to pop, to lure the genre elements and writing styles. A lot of Maroon 5 lately too.
But in my own appreciative listening time I listen to instrumental jazz (mostly the fusion guitarists, Frisell, Metheny, Rit and others), classical (I particularly like the big city orchestras, like Boston Pops, London, Prague Philharmonics ect. playing the old classics), and then some random classic rock and blues like Clapton, Derek Trucks, Robert Cray ect.

I am going to have to catch your stand up act sometime, you are always funny on this forum...!!!!
I am listening to stuff to make my songwriting more current sounding, The Black Keys, a lot on the new country stuff that sounds like Southern Rock from the 70s....... like Jason Aldean....

I almost never listen to music in the car. Usually NPR.
For pleasure I've been digging Arvo Part. His music is very devotional and deep.
Otherwise it's listening for research.

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

I hear ya!...... wait can I hear silence? too many years standing in front of Marshall stacks makes silence impossible even when in complete silence!!T&V Marino wrote:SILENCE!
