Hello Everyone!
Hello All!
My name is Ernest Whaley. I'm 68,this year and realized, that if I don't start now I would have to come around the "wheel of Life" again to get things done.
I guess I am what you would call (in fine arts speak) a primitive. I put sounds and melodies, and words together without a lot of planning or thought.
My songs just happen. The best ones seem to be born fully grown, and all they need for me to do is play them often enough to be comfortable with them.
I rely on musically literate friends to tell me what key they are in, what chords or non-chords I am playing. I don't understand the difference between a "bridge", and a "chorus". That being said, I will be using my last unemployment check to join Taxi near the end of Dec. and living on Social Security until I can start making a living with music. I have performed before and am currently looking for those types of opportunities locally.
I know we don't make it easily on this level of reality with out the help of others, so I am reaching out to you veterans to keep me heading in the right direction.
I have a web page that I will be updating as it is sorely in need, but it does have a link to my Reverbnation page where I post my "work tapes" songs in progress of which I have 5 or six hours worth, though not all posted .
I record in Sonar in my living-room, closet, bedroom, wherever it sounds best on a particular day. Unless I win the lottery, I wont be going into a studio to record anytime soon, so what ever advice that you can share as to getting the recording quality up to where I can submit to opportunities here I would appreciate it greatly. The webpage is http://www.ernestwhaleymusic.com also to make it easier here is the direct link to my page on, Reverbnation http://www.reverbnation.com/ernestwhaley. I will be diligent about getting back here on a daily basis, and following up on advice.
Looking to make some long term friends, and create some honest music.
Blessings and Balance,
Ernest

Re: Hello Everyone!
Welcome Brother to the forum:)
This place is a nurturing station for all walks of talent.
We listen, we comment to help eachother out , to better ourselves as songwriters.
Let me start by saying that your voice has a tone that is believable and honest.
Here you will listen and learn from other writers , and you mix that in with what you already have
the soul

Re: Hello Everyone!
Juan, Thank you for those kind words. I hope to get the fee together shortly, join Taxi and start to learn from those that have gone before.

Re: Hello Everyone!
Stuart, Patty, Roger,
Thanks for the welcome! I've lurked around Taxi for a few years now, but have never been organized enough in my songwriting, or my belief in myself to join.
I'll be saving up from the last two unemployment checks that I qualify for to get a membership.
I will be talking songwriting with you soon.
