Logic Pro X ... finally.

Post by AlpacaRoom » Tue Jul 16, 2013 6:13 am

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2013/07 ... Pro-X.html

Looks like it's got Melodyne-like pitch-correction now, and a slick new "virtual drummer" interface.

... and an early overview, including a video of the Drummer plug.

It'll be a little while before you'll want to use it for critical projects, but it sure seems like a worthwhile $200 upgrade at first blush.

Ha, yeah. I got the new Mac in 2011, and it's still going strong (amazing what $50 worth of RAM will do) ... but I was planning on getting an iPad in the fall when the new ones are released, and the Logic Remote makes it a no-brainer now. So there goes almost a grand (!!!!) between the two.

Interestingly enough there doesn't seem to be an upgrade price for Logic 9 users. Granted $199 is still less than the previous upgrade prices for version 8 & 9. The features are well worth the asking price anyhow. I really like the new interface design.

Seems to have quite a number of needed and also suprising improvements. Liking the design and mixer improvements, the iPad remote!! and that Virtual Drummer. To have that built-in is a great addition. Overly midi-sounding drums should now soon become totally extinct :)

But no update price for existing Logic users?? Unfair to say the least. :x

true in a way. seems that ipad remote just takes touchOSC one level deeper.

but the $199 is what the old upgrade used to cost.

for this guy i need a new mac to run this so will stick with L9 for a while

Since the App store never had an option for upgrade pricing on either iOS or Mac I always wondered what Apple will do once they update one of their major apps. The Answer appears to be to charge the same price for everyone. I would not be surprised if a lot of app developer will follow suit. Luckily most pro music applications are not in Apple's App store and as far as Logic is concerned $199 is not too much to ask for such a stellar update.

I see your point and yes $200 is a total and utter steal for new time buyers. Logic used to cost almost 5 times that originally. And as a 10+ year paying user, who already spent probably 1500+ euro on Logic, i still think there should be an upgrade price of say half for existing paid users.

But oh well - since it only runs on 10.8 i'll need to update my OSX first, then probably get a new macbook pro as and wait for the Dutch Apple website to even offer Pro X (as they strangely not do yet). Guess it'll have to wait a bit.

For those that are getting it right away - enjoy and post some reviews pls!

Jay
