Moving Pictures

Post by LooknGlass » Fri Aug 09, 2013 10:02 am

This is a draft of something I've been working on. I am working on a different version that plays on the "Moving Pictures" hook, giving it a cinema aspect as the pictures are replayed in the mind. It will delve more in the scenes that play out in certain pictures.

I've heard the expression "If these walls could talk"
I say they sometimes do
Through the pictures hanging along the stairs,
hallway and living room

(Vs)
Heard it said "A picture's worth a thousand words"
but something's worth more than that
Like the sweet memories that they bring to mind
and feelings they bring back

(Ch)
I've seen moving pictures
That bring a needed smile
I've seen moving pictures
That often brought me tears
I've seen moving pictures
That stay with me awhile
Many moving pictures
That span through many years

(Vs)
"You can't bring back the past" isn't always true
Take a look upon your wall
It's hanging right there to relive again
Through the memories of it all

(Ch)
I've seen moving pictures
That bring a needed smile
I've seen moving pictures
That often brought me tears
I've seen moving pictures
That stay with me awhile
Many moving pictures
That span through many years

Very good job! I like the spin on the old cliches.

A small suggestion: You may want to flip the "years" with the "tears" line in the chorus. I feel it's always best to end (and begin) a chorus with an emotionally loaded punch, and the tears line carries more heft in my mind.

Interestingly, and coincidentally, I did a take on a similar premise with my tune "My Life in Pictures" (elsewhere on this page); there's even a play on the phrase "Picture's worth a thousand words."

Good job.

Glenn

Hi Amanda, thanks so much for reading and commenting. This is a country song but it is at the time getting a major re-write. Thanks again for posting.

Glen thanks for the review and the suggestions. I am re-writing this in a major way and when I am done I will post for re-view also. Sometime in the next couple days I will look up your lyric.
