Hey everyone, I'm Dan
I'm a hip-hop artist who originally grew up in massachusetts, but since about 16 I've moved around quite a bit and right now am residing in virginia. I'm 22 years old and attended american university in washington DC as a business and music major with a minor in audio production, but am taking a year of to get a few things sorted out with my life.
I recently recorded 3 songs at Quad Studio in New York City (you can see the studio at quadnyc.com). Quad is a very famous (It's the place where tupac got shot the first time) and very well regarded studio within hip hop and rap culture.
I would love to hear everyones thoughts on my music, you can find it on my page at http://www.taxi.com/king (my stage name is K1NG). I am only putting the music up on the site for now because I am shopping it to record labels before I release it. Venom is the track with the most commercial value, The Take Over has the most radio hit potential, and Take my Hand Ft. Abir is the most meaningful to me and the most lyrical. WARNING TRACKS ARE EXPLICIT.
I guess that the reason why I'm writing this now is because I really feel as though I'm at a crossroads. I recently got into some pretty bad trouble because I was drugged by someone who was my best friend and went insane for a couple hours, I woke up in the hospital handcuffed to the bed with pretty much no recollection of anything save getting bit by a german shepherd police dog. I beg you all not to think of me as a bad person though, before this I had never even got a detention, much less had problems with the law. I believe everything is going to work out, I have a very good lawyer and the police and everyone else has been extremely understanding and I am very thankful for that. There are so many other facets of my life that are falling apart that I won't go into, but through it all, I have stayed extremely focused on my music.
Basically where I'm at right now is that I'm broke, I have about a year and a half left in college, and I need to start making it somewhere with my music. As far as my following I have a very small one, I used to go under the stage name resiliency, but I change that about half a year ago to K1NG and so completely started over. But I think that if you listen to my music, you will understand why I am so determined to fulfill my dream. I have put everything of me into making this music, and while recognizing that of those three songs only one is very deep and personal they all mean something special to me even though some may be more mainstream than others.
What I want to do right now is to get a record deal. It doesn't have to be a big one, or with a large paycheck, but at least enough to support me for a year of life and live somewhat comfortably. I recently submitted all three tracks to a listing on taxi where a major independent label is looking for artists for their roster. I am also pursuing other avenues of having my music sent to labels. What I'm asking all of you is do you think its possible with the music that I have? I have received very good feedback from people in high up places in hip hop (not necessarily in labels), but I know that it is extremely difficult to land a record deal without having a following, but I think that if someone looks at me and my music they will see the commercial value. Im at a point where I need to know where to go with my music and life, I know that I need money for marketing and videos and photoshoots, but quite frankly, I don't have it. I am very thankful that I am being supported by my family but I very much want to support myself.
Please leave your thoughts whether it be on my music or just on where I'm at
Thank you
Dan/K1NG
