turn individual instrument mp3 track into sheet music?

Post by funsongs » Sun Dec 13, 2015 3:13 pm

Okay, all you tech experts out there in Taxi Wonderland*: what's the best/simplest program out there that takes a played piece and converts it to and/or spits it out as sheet music? - for people who know how to read that stuff, obviously.
In advance; thanks.

Audio-to-midi-to-notation

Music transcription for a google term

Many daws have them, or audio-to-midi conversion, and then whatever is in midi is in the score editor as well.

you will need to clean-up in the score window to make it readable, as a score is "less accurate" than a midi interpretation and it's suppose to be. ;)

There is a more complex system to help you transcribe in "Sonic Visualizer", which is free, along with the "vamp" plugins which are also free, put out by the "Queen Mary University of London".

We don't yet have the technology to convert an MP3 of a group into sheet music. There is stuff out there that can do solo instruments, but the ability to separate drums, guitar/bass, plus multiple horns or keyboards is not there yet. Putting vocals in the makes it even harder.

Shoulda been clearer in my question - yes, I mean a solo instrument...
say a keyboard, or even an mp3 of one instrument part-to-notation.
Thanks, Paulie.

Thanks, Paulie.
Solo instrument should be fairly easy.

Maybe not directly into sheet music, but Sonic Visualizer could be a very valuable tool for transcribing.
This is probably one of the best videos I found to show some of the possibilities.

When you can overlay panes like finding the tempo, beats and bars, chord progression, midi notes,
and if you can discern between the pitch range of the guitar and bass, or drums, etc.

I've heard Melodyne can do it, but it's one of the more expensive ways to do it. Does someone have experience with Melodyne subscribe a melodie?
