Hi, I'm having similar issues as Tim. I've had songs professionally produced to have feedback that they don't sound professional enough. The other thing I'm getting is a complete diversity of opinions (no common thread) to the critiques so that I can make changes. It's mostly just an up or down vote. I paid for a professional critique and he basically said that I need get together with a lyricist (anybody looking?). I do realize that my experience as a composer has absolutely nothing to do whether a song is marketable or not, so I take it with a grain of salt. But it's a lot of rejection isn't it?! There's 13000 members, that's alot as well.

Make background music.

Most music in music libraries is instrumental music. This music is used in the background of TV shows. There really isn't a need to do vocals and try to make contemporary music. You can just do simple instrumental pieces with easy drum patterns and bass guitar licks.

Keep it simple. More "training and gear" isn't needed.

I agree about the singing thing for those of us who aren't gifted vocally. I'll still write songs, the singing lessons are making writing more enjoyable and helping me come up with better melodies but I still haven't got a marketable voice and accept I never will . These instrumental pieces will help fund future pro vocalists though, and I'm learning new production chops with every instrumental I mix.
