Second Honeymoon ©2016 Robert George BMI
We had been together nearly seven years
And we’d sacrificed romance for our careers
So we went on the internet one day
And we booked a nice romantic getaway
A Pennsylvania B & B with ritzy rooms
And we’d have ourselves a steamy second honeymoon
The website promised the adventure of our lives
So we got time off and took an all day drive
Two miles out we passed a motel on the right
It was like the place we’d spent our wedding night
Just a bed and tv in a tiny dingy room
But money bought us much more for our second honeymoon
Yeah, that B & B was built colonial style
It had cut glass doorknobs and some marble tile
And a black cat curled up on a wing back chair
As the night clerk took our bags up mahogany stairs
That four-post oak bed nearly filled the fancy room
Perfect kindling for a fiery second honeymoon
But there was a moosehead mounted right above the bed
And we wondered if that thing was really dead
Cos its blank eyes seemed to follow us
After midnight we heard taunting voices in the hall
In the darkness we heard haunting noises in the wall
And our terror seemed to swallow us
Well, we grabbed our bags and left that creepy room
And kissed goodbye our steamy second honeymoon
We checked in that old motel a coupla miles away
And the owner smiled and said, “enjoy your stay”
We sat on that small bed tryin’ to be calm
Then we cried and laughed and made love until dawn
O we held and kissed each other like a bride n groom
It felt like the first time on that second honeymoon
When we fin’lly checked out of that old motel
The owner said he owned that B & B as well
And that scary room was an elaborate plan
Just a hoax to coax young lovers back where they began
We grinned and said he’d see us again real soon
Cos our hearts deserved another second honeymoon
