Sea Witch ©2016 Robert George BMI
Well, the moon is perched upon my sailboat’s mast
I set sail at twilight to escape the past
And I tip a jug while standing on the stern
To forget a future that will not return
Cos whiskey is a sea witch
And she casts her spell on me
Out here in the mist,
Her enchanted kiss
Sets my lonely spirit free
I met Clara south of Galveston,
Her lips eclipsed the scarlet sun
When we made love along the sandy evening shore
But sand became a castle made of sorrow,
The tide receded from tomorrow
The day she pinned that letter to my cabin door
But whiskey is a sea witch
And she casts her spell on me
Out here in the mist,
Her enchanted kiss
Soothes my aching memory
In the moonlit waters off the midnight coast
I can almost hear the footsteps of a ghost
But I know another drink of Cutty Sark
Will drown the shipwrecked shadows in my heart
Cos whiskey is a sea witch
And she casts her spell on me
Out here in the mist,
Her enchanted kiss
Sets my lonely spirit free
Yes, whiskey is a sea witch
And she casts her spell on me
Out here in the mist,
Her enchanted kiss
Soothes my aching memory…
