Requesting feedback on improving this song

Post by Reddog » Mon Oct 24, 2016 10:50 am

Hi forum members Reddog here. This is my first post so I hope I get it done right. My partner and I wrote and copyrighted this song In The Grace of Your Love and many people have said they enjoy it very much. I would like to see if any of you forum members have any advice that would help move this song along to a recording artist and release. I hope the link I provided works. I look forward to your input on this song and demo recording.

Best,
Steven

Hi Reddog,
I really like this song a lot, and what follows is only my humble opinion.
I would love to have heard the lead vocal doubled in unison in the pre chorus,
and at 44sec. a two part harmony chorus/refrain, and at 140sec. and at 319sec. possibly a three part
harmony chorus/refrain to bring it home.
I say again this is just one persons opinion, and it would be wrong to change anything without getting more
input from the other members. I hope this post is useful to you. Great Song.

Respect Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the input and your points are well taken. I do have a version with full band that incudes harmonies similar to what you suggested. I just put up the keyboard vocal version to give more imaginative freedom to the listener. You did nice work on your Soundcloud tracks, my compliments.

Best,
Steven

Hi,

took a listen, enjoyed it! Strong Elton John vibe off the top. Vox were strong, musicianship equal to the vox. Maybe some harmonies can be added, but I like the sound you captured. Well done.

cheers

Love the voice and piano playing, sound excellent.

I heard some distortion on the vocals in my Auratones. Didnt listen on other speakers ,they tend to be sensitive to distortion, maybe too much? lol

The guitar coming in surprised me. I'd like to hear more of it, or not at all. but just my opinion

Only two comments I got.

Overall very nice song.

Hey Steven,

Great vocals!

From a mix perspective, I would love to hear the vocals more upfront. My (right now tired) ears would make me try pulling the volume of the keys down a bit and reduce some of the distortion on the vocals. I would probably have a play with an eq on the piano and reduce some of the low mids.

I would also like to hear the guitar stick around for a bit longer!

Overall a really great song.

Hope that's helpful.

Hi Steven.
Nice song and I enjoyed the the listen. Shame about the distortion on the vocals though.
The nylon string guitar sounds great and I wanted to hear more of that - though I do realise you have several versions of the song.
Arrangement wise - I wondered if you really needed to repeat the verse at the end? It didn't seem necessary to me, but that's just my extremely humble opinion.
All the best.
Steve

Had to type in "Elton" on this page in Firefox, which happen to start search for what you type in real time and sure enough ...
Someone had already figured out it sounds like a certain Reginald Dwight ...
Very good no matter what, great playing and singing!!!
You could get famous for less than that!

The recorded voice sounded a little thin, not the voice but the recording`?
Or is it the piano that's heavy in the low end and kind of overpowers the voice?
Phatter voice in the mix with more room ambience and less piano thunder, or is it just me?
