Not Knowing What You Are Signing Away

Post by rolanoid » Sat Mar 25, 2017 6:44 pm

I've noticed an increasing trend with the terms of conditions with many online services including music licensing sites whereby you agree to be bound by any future changes they make to the terms that they post on the site. They do not even have to notify you by email of the updated terms. I find this worrying and have avoided agreeing to such terms but I notice them becoming almost standard now. In effect it seems to a non-lawyer like me that there's nothing to stop sites taking full ownership of your intellectual property or doing as they please with it further down the road should they choose to. I also dislike the word "perpetual rights" creeping increasingly into these licensing contracts lately even if they are non-exclusive.
