rock tune

It's been a while. Not for a listing, just looking for mix feedback or any suggestions.

Right on Les!
I can hear you smiling as you hit RECORD again! :D
I dig the Satriani feel of the main melody lick - That's a great line btw
Mix is great!
Away from the lick - It would be nice to have two guitars calling and answering, that would keep the ears into it!
My ears wanted to sizzle the cymbals so that they ring out another second or so.
Right now there aren't any edit points that stood out to me...
I hear this kind of stuff on the Golf Channel all the time when they do Golf Course Fly-Overs talking about the layout of the course.
Glad to hear you Tracking!!!

From The Peanut Gallery:
Good, high-energy track... had me thinking a newer version of Pete Townsend: like New Who... or Who New?... or WHO KNEW?!
Just havin' some fun with it.
There are places (beginning @ :17, for example) where the kick drum pattern feels too busy... like a premature/too-anticipated double-kick thing...
where if you were to have a really drummer play the track, it might feel more "in the pocket" & solid - less quantized, more natural.
That's some nice, fancy guitar work you got going on there.
Welcome back, Kotter! :D

Thanks Cass and Peter for the welcome back and your educated ears. :) I hear where you are both coming from.

Cass I too felt that the piece was a little predictable so I may try another guitar part.
I need to dig around in my drum samples, I had exactly the same feeling about the cymbals but didn't pursue it far enough.
I'm just using EZ Drummer on this and if I can't get a better sound in the program I'll try flying the cymbals out to BFD.

Peter, the drum loop I started with is very busy with heaps of deep floor tom hits. It reminded me a little of Big Electric Cat by Adrian Belew.
Will check those double kicks. Thanks. Keep up the good word play too. :D

I'm digging being back in the studio but could be called away again anytime soon for quite a while due to my father being ill.
I guess I'm lucky that I can get away to be with family when they need me there.

Edit: Thanks for the kind words too guys. :)

Finally changed a few things as per recommendations.

Peter I cleaned up the kick and made the Tom hits more obviously tom hits- "DUH!" :D

Cass I didn't include another guitar part this time but I pushed up an instrument that was buried in the original mix to give a bit more texture. Found some better cymbal samples in easy drummer that ring out a bit more.

Thanks for the ears.

This version with 'simpler' drums keeps 'em from distracting from the guitar work;
thus they do their proper role of supporting... me thinks.
Your mileage may vary. :)

I agree totally Peter, thanks for pointing it out to me. :) It was a pretty ordinary drum track in the first clip.

I really value the feedback. Will keep an eye out for your next track in p2p'

Cheers
