Intel i7 6th generation vs. 7th

Post by karafinman » Thu Jun 01, 2017 6:54 am

I'm considering the Dell XPS 8910 or 8920. The 8910 is $120 cheaper ($880) and has a 6th generation i7 and a NVIDIA graphics card. The 8920 has a 7th generation i7 and an AMD graphics card. They both have a 1TB hard drive. I have a separate 256GB drive that I can install. They both have 16 GB RAM, can take up to 64GB. I am using Cubase , the East West Composer Cloud, Omnisphere and Stylus RMX. Please advise. Be kind. :)

It seems mainly the benefit is video, web browsing, power savings, and speed tweekability, probably nothing to do with an audio recording setup. I mean I'm sure Cubase is probably light years away from 4K video, if it ever will have it. Power savings isn't as important on a desk top as it would be on a laptop, and 1 computer versus a network of computers, and it's probably not worth the stability issues to go bumping up the speed on your cpu for critical recording software. Imo, save the $120.
