MIDI controller Daw comaptibility Question..

Post by Tunesmith » Sat Jul 08, 2017 2:11 pm

Hi All,

Do any of you happen to know if the Akai MPK Mini MkII works with Tracktion DAW? Or any recommendation for a controller 25/49 key for Tracktion?

Thank you!

Best,
Linda C

It so happens I have one of those and I'm a Tracktioneer. The only issue I had was one of the free add-on software synths refused to authorize on the Mac. It works okay with the PC though, and it's not something you'd miss unless you're doing a lot of dubstep.

I just got a new keyboard controller for my DAW (Tracktion) last year and I love it. I'm not at home at this moment, but as soon as I get there later today I'll post the details. It's a good controller and comes in various sizes. (I also have an Akai wind controller and that works great too.)

Unrelated question - does the Akai MPK Mini MkII have the same USB cable/power issues that the original mini had?

Midi is a standard, so as far as midi goes, if the controller or the daw doesn't comply with the midi standard, it either will not work with any daw or the daw won't work with any controller. The "editor" software works inside the OS, not the daw.

Hi - my controller is a M-Audio Keystation 61. Works great with my Tracktion 7, East West VIs, Omnisphere, etc. It's direct to USB. There's also a pedal, sold separately. Mod wheels etc on the left. Comes in 'mini', 49, 61, and 88. I haven't experienced one wit of latency with it. I'm not a pianist, per se, so the keys work well for me.

full size is $199 USD at Sweetwater right now.

Thank you for all your input. I was looking at the piece you have Vikki except I needed a smaller one...So I purchased the Akai Advance 25. I am having an issue tho.. I can't get the pitchbend wheel to send any signal, ie it just doesn't pitch bend. Everything else works on it. Is there a setting in Tracktion I need to do for pitchbend to be recognized? I didn't have to do anything with my Kawaii K5. The wheel works fine. I asked T support and after 24 hours, I did not get an answer to it, but rather suggested keyboards.

I also have a ticket into AkAI and that's been 24 hours as well. I am wondering if I have a defective unit?

And Mojo, as far as installing the VIP software on PC..that is not working either at the moment so I am recording as usual without it (or trying to!) I was thinking that I probably didn't need it..

Thanks again!

Best,
Linda C
