HELP! Stolen Melody? Thanks!

Post by ernstinen » Wed Aug 16, 2017 12:02 pm

Hi All,

I recently remembered a scrap of a song that I 'think' I wrote when I was younger, but now that I've started rewriting it, the verse melody sounds REALLY FAMILIAR!

So I'd appreciate y'all listening to just 25 seconds of the first verse. I don't want to work on it any longer if I STOLE this melody!

I just can't place it --- It seems to sound like a jazzy/bluesy/R&B melody that I've heard before, but is it?

Here's the link (If SoundClown still exists LOL!):

Thanks in advance,

Ern

Doesn't ring any bells to me, Ern.

Only sonic-wise - did I immediately think of Steely Dan's Aja, and some Billy Joel oldies - but not to the point of a melody rip-off.
Yes - Soundcrowd does appear to still be in business... for now.

Other minds & ears with more encyclopedic knowledge might have a more discerning view.
You're good with the Peanut Gallery, though.
Full torpedoes, Mr. Spock. :? :)
Your mileage may vary.

Nothing rings a bell here either, but it has a show tune vibe.

It has a familiar ring to it but doesn't smack me in the chops with an immediate twin.

Good to go.

I don't recognize the tune... I feel your frustration by the way, I had to ask pretty much the same question about one of my pieces a couple of months ago.

The style kind of reminds me of early Bowie for some reason. Not a bad thing :)

Thanks for the replies! Here's an artist that I think maybe it sounds like: Do any of you remember the jazz pianist Les McCann? He had a hit live jazz recording called "Swiss Movement" from a European jazz festival some time ago. What Les did on that record was SING songs like "Compared To What?" He had an earthy voice, and played chordal-style jazz piano. But it was a popular hit record because it had Les' vocals and it kind of rocked, even though it was a jazz quartet... Maybe that's not it, but check out that recording, anyway. It's really cool, no matter what kind of music you like.

That's as close as I can get at this point!

I'VE GOT IT! "Hey Hey What Can I Do" by Led Zeppelin. Same opening melody, but mine is slower. I sure KNEW it was something familiar! The chords aren't exactly the same, but the melody is. Oh well...

Not exact but somewhat close to "I Love Her So" by Ray Charles.
