Yea mojo the SSL bus comp is pretty sweet. For a long time I switched off between the ssl bus comp and the api2500 on my 2buss. Always did the job very nicely.

As a side note, the ONLY 2buss comp I use now is Cytomic's The Glue. Its an SSL emu but imo it sounds better than the waves ssl bus. And it has a mix knob   8-)

https://cytomic.com/glue - Pretty sure demo is fully functional so you can try for yourself :)
Speaking of glue, Kush Audio's UBK1 was next on the wishlist, but it could get bumped if the Cytomic is cheaper, hehe. Might maybe the Kush plugin does a few more tricks than the Cytomic, though. How does the Cytomic compare with the API?

Haven't had a chance to try the UBK1 but have heard great things. Since I got The Glue I haven't used the API on the 2buss anymore...but I still use the API on other sources (its great on vox), whereas I only use The Glue on the 2buss or a drum buss. The API is still one of my favorite comps.

*Honorable mention to the Melda MTurboComp which I've been using on EVERYTHING lately bc of its ease of use and versatility. And also for free the Tokyo Dawn stuff is excellent.

I haven't tried that UBK1 either, but the other Kush plugin I have, the Clariphonic, is dope.
My 2 plugins that find their way onto almost every track are the UA or WAves SSL E channel Strip, and the Crane Song Phoenix II. The Crane Song is magic glue! Expensive, but worth every cent. I saw that Derek Ali used it extensively on the Butterly album. Now I know why...

Waves NLS (Nonlinear summer) is on sale. $29. I highly recommend this plugin (unless you have slate vcc). For those of us that started this journey on digital, and not analog, learning how to mix analog style in the box has been a game changer for me. Proper mixing and metering is essential. This was my first purchase on that journey. Subtle, yes. But used properly you can REALLY get a sound like mixing on these consoles. Once you get how to use it properly, you'll be amazed at how open and 3d you can get your mixes. I agree slate vcc has a bit more under the hood, and Nebula beats them both. But $29 I would suggest picking this one up.

Looks like Labor Day only.

P.S. Can anyone speak to the differences betweee the E series and the G series?

Full disclaimer I am still very much a novice when it comes to production related matters so I could be entirely wrong, but when I was looking into it, it seemed to me that the E-Channel was more to be used for single channels, where the G-Channel was better used for bus channels, like your mix bus, drum bus, etc.

Hey Dave, like Mark has mentioned, most of today's "mixing masters" are using the E series Eq's & compression on individual channels, and the G series as a bus compressor only.
