Re: RIP Cakewalk / Sonar
I never knew there might be an issue leaving a royalty free loop bare. I will have to research that, do not want any issues. Thanks Owen and Mark.

Re: RIP Cakewalk / Sonar
so if you do your alts the same way and use the markers, you can do all 7-8 files in one pass while you refill that coffee.I get you now...actually I do make my cut down mixes in that way..60 / 30 / 15 and a stinger
Roc, it ultimately depends on the terms of use from the developer but that tends to be the case. But it doesnt have to be too involved. Even a loop from a different developer would meet that requirement. or some percussion, hihat. whatever.
Also, probably worth getting used too reading through the terms of use (aka end user license agreement aka EULA) whenever you buy a new sample/loop library. Especially a company/developer you're new to.

Re: RIP Cakewalk / Sonar
I just saw the news on the Cakewalk user forum. It's sad and hard to believe.
I haven't been able to find any official comments or direction about this from Craig Anderton, I checked Harmony Central, but didn't find it there.
I guess I'll be looking at S1 in 2018, and would appreciate any other thoughts on other DAWS.
Are there any DAWs that would be better at importing old projects from Cakewalk? Looks like I'll be running a dual DAW environment for a long time to come.
Thanks, Jim

Re: RIP Cakewalk / Sonar
It looks like Gibson bought it about 4 years ago, and Gibson seems to be where all software goes to die, lol!
It doesn't mean it will quit working, unless you lose your key somehow, and support has ended. But I saw something that they were working on with that.

Re: RIP Cakewalk / Sonar
I agree, I could probably keep using it for years (barring an incompatible update from Microsoft, etc).
But if its a dead end platform, there's not much point in hanging on for too long. I'll take some time to evaluate other DAWs with the goal of moving on as soon as I feel comfortable with the decision (after the holidays )
Ideally another company would pick it up. It really is a great product. Thing is, although my information is sketchy, it sounds like they already released the employees instead of looking for a buyer.

Re: RIP Cakewalk / Sonar
This is true , I started out with the midi only Cakewalk in the 90's and am still using 8.5 from 2009..personally I think they ruined it with X1jdstamper wrote:I agree, I could probably keep using it for years (barring an incompatible update from Microsoft, etc).
In the 'old days' upgrades were out of necessity ..vst support, multi monitors, asio ...these were all must have features. The only feature I slightly envy in the 8yrs since it came out is ARA support for Melodyne, but I mostly work on instrumentals now so I can live with it for the occasional song.

Re: RIP Cakewalk / Sonar
Hey Thanks! That's an interesting thread for sure. Doesn't make me optimistic about a new future for Sonar, but I'll cross my fingers while I look at other DAWs. There was so much to like about Sonar that I hate to think about it all being scrapped, such a waste. At the very least it seems like another DAW brand should be interested in buying the intellectual property, and hiring some key people, for enhancements to their own products.cosmicdolphin wrote:He chimed in on this Reddit thread form a former employee https://www.reddit.com/r/Cakewalk/comme ... _here_ama/jdstamper wrote: I haven't been able to find any official comments or direction about this from Craig Anderton, I checked Harmony Central, but didn't find it there.

Re: RIP Cakewalk / Sonar
Wow. Now there's an idea. If PreSonus bought the Sonar code and hired some Cakewalk coders, they would have a SuperDAW on their hands... I won't hold my breath but I will hope. Someone should start a thread about this on the S1 forums....PreSonus is listening......jdstamper wrote:[.
