2017 Year In Review (add yours if you like)

Post by Paulie » Thu Dec 28, 2017 8:00 pm

I just got done going through my numbers for the year...
  • I started 2017 with about 100 cues signed across six libraries.
  • I finished 2017 with 303 cues signed across 17 libraries.
  • My placements are increasing in the US and abroad.
All of my progress this year can be tied back to my Taxi membership: the forums, the people I've met, and the relationships I created or fostered while attending the Rally.

In other words:
  • My life before Taxi = zero cues in zero libraries.
  • My life with Taxi = hundreds of cues in many libraries.
Collaboration played a huge part in my growth this year, and I've gladly gotten two collaborators into their first libraries via co-writes.

My submittals decreased quite a bit, but only because I've been spending most of my time writing for existing library relationships.

2017 Listing Results
  • Standard: 21 listings, 26 cues, 3 forwards = 12%
  • Dispatch: 22 listings, 33 cues, 9 forwards = 27%
  • TOTAL: 43 listiings, 59 cues, 12 forwards = 20%
Expenses are down, productivity is up. I'm hoping 2018 is the year I really move the revenue dial in the right direction. :D

Huge congratulations Paulie!! Thank you for taking the time to track your numbers and share them with us. Very encouraging. As a newbie, I find it particularly helpful. I hope I’ll get to shake your hand at the 2018 Rally!

I just joined TAXI in August, so not much to report. I don’t submit to libraries yet—just artist pitches and direct-to-TV. But I got 7 forwards of 15 submissions, and I just got my first paycheck for playing live!! I can’t believe they paid me to do something I would do for free. This is truly the dream! I hope to follow in your footsteps someday. Keep it up!

Fantastic Paulie! I am ahead this year due to TAXI as well. I re-joined in Sept 2016. I was a member in 1993 and 1994. What a long hiatus! Anyway, within 3 months I had 2 forwards for vintage recordings and in 2017 was signed to a library with a (I hope) long lasting relationship. The vintage thing has kept me pretty busy but I am now recording cues and re-writing older tunes and have started collaborating of which have only done a few times in the past.

Also, last year at this time I was recording still on older gear and now after study and use, I am undawnted by the DAW and plugins..boy, sure is alot easier!

Loved the Road Rally and all the folks here! Love the books the learning, camaraderie!

Happy New Year Everyone!

I saved 15% on my auto insurance by switching to...

Seriously, it was an excellent year for me musically. :D Signed a whole bunch of new writes and co-writes to solid libraries. Many of these were with Taxi co-writers who I had not worked with before, a result of building relationships on this forum, Facebook, and most importantly, the Road Rally. :D

Had my first vocal song placement that I am aware of (I've had lots of instrumentals on TV). And even got the sync fee check for the Holidays. 8-)

I feel like I keep growing as a songwriter and lyricist. Lots of stuff in the Casey-queue!

Much love to all! Happy New Year!
:D Casey
