And sometimes you don't need to change anything, especially if your music is good and with the forwards you are getting, that must be the case. It's just having it at the right place at the right time.

For example, I started getting songs signed with an excellent Taxi-friendly library, 6-7 years back. I got my first placement only 1-2 years ago. You just have to keep at it. As others have said, the competition has never been fiercer with so much great music out there.

Write, Submit, Forget, Repeat! :D

I gave a listen as well, and it's all really good to great, but...it all sounds as though it coulda been done by one guy at one arranger keyboard. Oddly enough, there's a lot of stuff out there like that. I'd suggest having a look at the sounds you're using, with an eye toward where they need freshening up and maybe...look for a partner who can add something you ain't got.

Hi again Al.
I have been scratching my head on this one and have a question for you:

On your track "Me and Mary Jane" there's an acoustic guitar at the start, then fiddle and banjo come in.
They are very convincing and well played, but is there a chance they are midi instruments?

If they are, and you have submitted the song for a listing, it could be that the screener has also questioned whether they are midi instruments; they are pretty hot on that score and do tend to prefer the real thing when it comes to earthy, acoustic instruments.

It's just a thought and please forgive me if I am wrong about the instrumentation. I don't wish to offend anyone - in fact if they are real, my congrats to the players.
Hi Steve so sorry man! completely missed your follow up comment.. Yeah They were VST Instruments.. Banjo was a sample Al

You asked initially about anything you may be doing wrong, and Id thought Id chime in on that. Not that I didnt like your music, I did, but one thing that goes against most advice out there is that your tracks needs some patience to get into. TV people and supervisors don't have much time, so they like to hear what the track is about in about 10seconds. Your tracks are a little more in the older record vein, where you build up slowly. To me, close to 50, that way of building tracks sounds very musical, but I could imagine that being a liability when busy people are listening, and get it served by others the way they like it.

So, if one thing, id consider doing some tracks where you push yourself to get a riff, theme or hook going within 5 seconds. Just a batch of those may attract more attention to your other stuff. You need some of the 20% in the 20/80% rule, imo.

Good luck to you!

Hi Alan. I took a good listen to your tracks at SC and IMHO you got the musicianship and mixing skills right where they need to be. As I hear it, it's more a matter of structure. This is what I heard:

On most of the tracks, that I listened to, I felt they used too long to build. 10sec is often too long. 2-4 bars is often more than enough.
Tips: get right where the action is and then strip it down from there before you build it back up again.

We, music supervisors, doesn't like to wait. Bring us the meal and as we get fed strip the food down. And don't forget to bring us some for dessert. ;) :)

When you build it up again add something new that define the climax of your track (eg tone, pace, edit-point etc).

So should you give up TAXI?
Short answer: No

Keep going and belive in your talent, you got it.

Hi Thanks for the feedback.. and taking the time to have a listen, I’ll definitely keep that in mind, I do have tracks on my SC that are drone tracks and the brief was for minimal .. and some ambient electronic tracks that were written just for myself.. But I totally know what you’re saying.. And something I’ll be more cautious of Thanks again
