Stranger Than the Heart Supposes ©2018 Robert George
Once I thought that love was valentines and painted flowers
Holding hands and drinking wine on moonlit water towers
O but we can’t rest our dreams upon a bed of roses
O my Lady,
O my dear
Love is stranger than the heart supposes
Once I thought that life and love were both enchanted dances
Magic would take care of cold and hungry circumstances
But forever only opens when illusion closes
O my Lady,
O my love
Time is stranger than the heart supposes
Children lean on fantasy and theater
They believe in sugar plums and gold
Yet a kiss is often so much sweeter
When a room is dark and bare and cold
Love is untold worlds of tears and laughter to uncover
Those uncertain worlds endear two lovers to each other
Joy and sorrow are the roots of honest roses
O my Lady,
O my dear
Love is stranger than the heart supposes
O my Lady,
O my dear
Love is stranger
Stranger than the heart supposes…
