Sometimes Truth ©2018 Robert George BMI
Sometimes truth is a trickster
It distracts us with a motion easy to believe
While concealing principle and gospel up its sleeve
It desires we explore each hiding place
To uncover ev’ry honest, worthwhile ace
Sometimes truth is a shadow
Dark and hazy outlines of a shape we can’t define
All that we are sure of is a distant light that shines
In a shifting world of gypsy wind and dust
Sometimes in the chill of night that shape is us
The things we feel, aren’t always real
And yet our unwary heart salutes
Then no one hears, the invading years
Cos time marches wearing velvet boots
Sometimes truth is a lover
She’s a thing of beauty who can see behind our eyes
And she takes our soul but leaves her shadow when she dies
Then a lonely world will feed upon our thirst
If our well of dreams and vision passes first
The things we feel, aren’t always real
And yet our unwary heart salutes
Then no one hears, the invading years
Cos time marches wearing velvet boots
Sometimes truth is a lover
She’s a thing of beauty who can see behind our eyes
And she takes our soul but leaves her shadow when she dies…
