Help With Genre/Emotion
I am working on a cue. I am not sure what genre it is or what emotion it might evoke. I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Lamar, I would say neo-soul? the drums are sort of Motownish, the pizzicato strings philly-soulish, the double bass jazzish.

The upright bass throws it off a little bit, replace that with an 808 tuned kick drum and you have some nice Chill Trap here.

Re: Help With Genre/Emotion
really cool track, it reallt comes alive for me around 1:30 when the hihats come in.
genre-wise its kinda hard for me to pin down, but it sounds familiar, theres a strong cinematic feel to it that makes me want to say lalo schiffrin, if he did a more modern love theme, but not quite. Len is right with the philly soul part but there isnt enough if a rhythmic feel to really go there. The closest I can get is a friendly Portishead.
Generally, dowtempo comes to mind but again, not enough rhythmic elements, if the groove were stronger with stronger drums I think it could work alongside Thievery Corporation.

Re: Help With Genre/Emotion
Thanks Len, Paulie and Owen. I appreciate your insights. I'm trying to find an avenue of contemporary music/production that I can call home. I like the different forms of Chill that I've heard. It sounds like I need more rhythmic elements to make that happen. Any suggestions as to where to learn more about Chill production techniques?
