Interviews with TOP Music Supervisors 2018
Two fresh and insightful perspectives from top music supervisors about their work..
Sarah Webster
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kw_9B0V ... e=youtu.be
Barry Cole
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTAmu7j_YB4
Not sure if they are or have been Taxi clients (just might be), but it is very insightful to learn about their jobs and how they roll.
This is the world our music lands in before placement time. Music is just one of six items on their "spotting list"..

What "caught your ear" mainly are these insanely loud and disruptive BG vocals
Aside of this I'm not sure I learned so much through these videos... But I guess it's good basic information for someone who doesn't know anything about music supervision... Maybe...

That's cool, Phil.
One thing that I noticed in the interview with Sarah was that for TV, supers are choosing the music based on the script, not based on picture, due to the high tempo in TV production. This was quite surprising to me.

Barry seemed pretty cool and approachable. Sarah did not.

Well D, if I was a music super, I wouldn't be approachable either. There are just too many opportunist artists out there, with huge ego's. But the interesting part was not what she is not, but what she said right after the part where she stated that she don't give out her email address
I'm sure some would be able to run with that hehe

It’s all for the best I guess. She seemed pretty corporate and by-the-bookish, so no worries.

I think you can be "approachable" without being a jerk. There is nothing wrong with being nice to people... it's usually the part of any good business person's day-to-day grind.

Absolutely, I agree. And you can be unapproachable without being a jerk as well. None of the supers came across as jerks to me, but rather as no bull kind of people working in a very timeconsuming and competitive environment. So they speak direct.Paulie wrote:I think you can be "approachable" without being a jerk. Wonder why we discuss persons here rather than content, though. There is a lot of music business insights about the music supervisors jobs and workflows in these interviews that folks could take advantage of, as these are people that daily evaluate music pitched for film/tv, either directly though Taxi listings (if they run them) or through the libraries/ publishers folks have gotten deals with.
The interviews are about understanding the environment that your music eventually lands in, and have to go through, before a placement.

I didn't think Sarah was a jerk at all, she was being an honest business person with a ton of experience to back it up. My comment about being a jerk was a general comment, because there are so many jerks in the industry. I thought her feedback was solid.
