Stripped-Down A/C Songs...

This is an interesting listing.

I'm trying to work out if this is asking for ..

1) A completed, ready for airplay song (note: the standard broadcast quality requirement) ..
Or
2) A song that can be re-recorded (or at least the vocals re-recorded) for use in the movie. Eg. If the movie has Jamie Fox in it - then surely he needs to sing it? Likewise if the main singer in the movie is a female but the submitted song has a male vocal on it, then once again it would need a new vocal.

The reason I'm asking is because I have a stripped down collab song (stripped down because it is so new that it doesn't really have much of an arrangement yet, and even the beats are basic placeholders) but it only has my VERY AVERAGE (thank you Melodyne) guide vocal on it.

I have no way to get a pro vocal on it by the deadline.. but if option 2) above is viable .. then maybe the guide vocal is Ok for the purpose of shopping the music, lyrics and topline of the song?

I did decide to submit it anyway for the sake of $5 because it sounds like a great opportunity. But what are people's thoughts on it?



STRIPPED-DOWN, ADULT CONTEMPORARY SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by THURSDAY for an (up to) $10,000, NON-Exclusive, Direct-to-Music Supervisor placement in a Big Budget Feature Film. Please submit soulful, well-structured songs with an infectious Topline (lyrics/melody), solid musicianship, and a compelling chorus that brings it all home.

TAXI Tip: We’ve been told this song is needed in a songwriting scene, so stripped-down piano/vocal or guitar/vocal recordings are recommended. Your submissions can have additional instrumentation, but there’s no need to throw the kitchen sink at this!! Of course, this means your song needs to be AWESOME!

Although Stripped-Down Guitar/Vocal or Piano/Vocal performances are welcome for this request, your recording quality (even for stripped-down demos) needs to be clean, clear, well balanced, and good enough to represent your song well.

Keeping your song simple and gradually adding some instruments to emulate a song being built could be a solid approach to take. Imagine the type of music that would be used in a “Hustle and Flow” or “Empire” scene where they’re creating a song on camera.

They didn’t specify any lyric themes, however, we have been told by our source that they will probably adjust the script around your Song to fit the storyline. That’s almost unheard of, and really cool! Lyrics that are relationship/love-based or introspective could be a good idea for this, and we recommend that you don’t use specific names, dates, times, brands, places and profanity to make your songs more appealing to this Music Supervisor.
