New song . " Lift You UP ".

Post by songmaster » Thu Jun 14, 2018 6:36 am

Hi Taxi people! I just got this song finished and produced by Drew Middleton. I think he did a great job on it and I am interested in trying to nail down what genre this could be. I wrote it for film and TV. So any first impressions would be appreciated. The lyrics are below and the song is on my Taxi page. Thanks in advance!!

Tom

Lift You Up ( Drew Middleton )

Sometimes you put on such a brave face
Such a pretty smile, it all seems such a sad shame
I can see a fire burns inside
But you hide the flame, when it wants to rise
You know your dreams won't be denied this time

Oh and I, want you to know
When you feel alone, out in the cold

Oh my love, I'll be there to lift you up
Be there to lift you up
When the clouds bring the rain
You can trust, I'll be there to give you love
We'll rocket to the sun
And we won't ever come down again

Sometimes you leave your pain unspoken
Cause you don't want me, to see the weight your holding
You missed you bus on a rainy day
You crossed your boss, cause you came in late
Your favoite dress, got a coffee stain, well OK

Oh and now, I want you to know
When you feel alone, out in the cold

Chorus

Bridge

I'll be there to cheer you on
Your biggest fan, your number one
That's my only mission
So take those days of broken songs
Use that pain to make you strong
I know you can go the distance

Chorus...end

Hey Tom,

Nice song. It's got a country slant to it, based on the vocal.

Two things.

On the first chorus I'd use the the arrangement of the 2nd chorus (it's an easy cut and paste). If you're pitching this to film and TV you don't want to hold back.

And on the third chorus I'd add in a snare on the backbeat, just to give this some forward momentum.

Hey John

Yes, I agree, great minds think alike :) I have already asked Drew to make the first chorus like the second one. It is really missing the bass drum and the music seems to be floating on top. The snare is a good idea also!

Thanks for confirming what I felt when I first heard it. And yes it does have a country slant, even though I was trying to write a ala Passenger song. But I will take it. I think it is almost an indie pop americana country song :?

Anyway, thanks for listening John.

Hi Tom:

Aside from the intro sounding a bit country - I was hearing crossover stuff like Ed Sheeren in the vocal, some Cat Stevens.
Love this lyric:

You missed your bus on a rainy day
You crossed your boss, cause you came in late
Your favorite dress, got a coffee stain, well OK

NIce song!

Thanks Andy! Yes, I can see tha it leans country. I like that you hear a little Ed Sheeran in the song and also Cat Stevens. It is a real mix. I guess it is leaning toward country pop at this point. Glad you liked the lyrics, I do try to spend some time on them.

Cheers

Thank you Phil and Vic! Wish I could take all the credit, but Drew did such an amazing job and his singer ( not sure of his name ) also did wonders on this song. Thank you for having a listen.

Great job, Fellas.
Just curious about your method,Tom - how much of this production, or direction, was you and/or your 'hands-on'?

Hi Peter,When ever I submit a song to Drew, I just send him a rough demo and the lyrics and I tell him what ala or genre I would like it, example I would say, I want it to have the same vibe as " Lego House " by Ed Sheeran, so then he has something to aim for, he usually sings it note for note, but also adds his own slant on it. I usually just leave it with him and when he sends it to me, if there are any major things that I think are a little out of wack, he will do a revision and it usually sounds great. He is great to work with also :)
