GUITAR-BASED URBAN INSTRUMENTALS

Post by DanLuedke » Sat Jul 07, 2018 6:27 am

Wondering if https://soundcloud.com/danluedke/sets/s ... ban-guitar I just finished with my cowriter fits this listing? I included the no vocals version in case that's a better fit. Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks in advance!

GUITAR-BASED URBAN INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a European Music Library with lots and lots of great placements in Film and TV. This company has just started running Listings with TAXI. It’s very unlikely that you’ve got music in their catalog, so this is a killer opportunity to get in on the ground floor! They’re looking for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of (but not limited to) these references:

“Frontin” by Pharrell ft. Jay-Z https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOtkH5amC7s

“Beautiful” by Snoop Dogg Ft. Pharrell Williams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FE194VN6c4

“Like I Love You” by Justin Timberlake https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQ3slUz7Jo8

Although the references above have vocals, this pitch is for instrumentals only.

Please submit well-crafted Instrumentals that generally reflect the guitar-focused approach of the references above, with a current, slick, Urban sound and style. Be sure your production is solid, with Urban-influenced rhythms, great sounding instrumentation and engaging melodies. Adding in some progressive changes (rhythmically or melodically) should help prevent your Instrumental from sounding too linear and one-dimensional.

Your submissions should be at about 2 minutes in length (give or take). Non-Faded endings will work best for this pitch. Do NOT copy the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Also, do not submit any material with unauthorized samples of other artists’ songs, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

Hi Dan,

This is a good track......but maybe not for this listing.
Your track sounds a little too much like easy listening music or kind of a smooth jazz sound.....not urban.

Listen where the BD and bass accents are on the Snoop track and then compare to yours.
The way the bass and BD are syncopated to the beat give it the urban vibe.

It's the same with the Justin Timberlake track.

Also listen how the snare on the reference tracks is crisp.

Also the Pharrell track has a nice sub bass or 808 going to give it a good urban vibe.
The Timberlake track also has a very low sub bass going.

I would say...try to change the beat and the bass accents to match the Snoop track and see what it sound like....and change the snare sound...(listen to the references).

My 2 cents,
Tim

I like the track Dan but I don’t think it’s on the ‘Urban’ side for the listing. Nice track though. I like your guitar sounds & playing.

Thanks for listening, TIm and DT!

I'll give my ears a break a try some of your advice, Tim. I hear what you mean. I'm also not fixed on making it work for this listing if it's a stretch because I like it the way it is.

It is a good track...and If you like the way it is...don't change it....it may be perfect for something else!

Hey, Dan - fun track!
Ditto what the other guys wrote. You certainly can keep the version you like as-is.
But it has potential & possibilities with some other percussion treatment.
Like: I can hear this with great disco-beat... double the time with the off-time hi-hat thing... Saturday Night Fever stuff...
it could be a great dance track.
Also, in the hands of one of your TAXI buds with a good handle on Hip-Hop & Rap beats/lyrics - something like that might fly, too.
Seems worth experimenting/collaborating... and still have 'your baby'. :? :)
