About Listings (Major Record Label A&R)

Post by Horacemix » Mon Jul 16, 2018 10:23 am

Hello:

I'd like to know more about this kind of listing where Major Record Label A&R are seeking songs for a known Artist. For example this:
"EMOTIONALLY COMPELLING ADULT CONTEMPORARY SONGS with Male Vocals are needed by a Major Record Label A&R Executive for an internationally known Artist who’s first single reached Number 2 on the UK Singles Chart. They’re on the hunt for well-crafted Songs in All-Tempos that you’d hear on a playlist with (but not limited to) acts and songs like..."

In this case Male Vocals are needed, but many times Female or Duets are required too. What I don't understand is why they need the songs to be well produced if the known artist will re make it, probably transposing the Key, producing new arrangements, etc... Are they seeking to buy the backing track production to the composer, maybe? Also, why they need only songs sung by Male, when might be a song sung by a Female that could also work for the Male Artist or vice versa?

What can you say about this, you forum users? I'd like to know your thoughts!

Regards!
Horace

Re. full production—often it's just a case of not having them "work" to hear the potential in your song. There are often so many people vying for these opportunities that the songs that sound polished are naturally going to have an edge. If it comes down to them hearing two great songs—one in development and one executed to its fullest idea—they'd likely go with the one that doesn't require their imagination. A lot of it comes down to showing them your vision
