New Song " Love Is Worth It "

Post by songmaster » Sat Jul 14, 2018 8:42 am

Hey everyone, Here is a song that I have been working on along with my co-writers Tim and Susan. Any and all comments are welcome. Also any genres that come to mind would be helpful. The song is " Love Is Worth It " and is on my Taxi page. Thanks in advance :)

To these Old-Guy ears - the guitar riff on the left is a bit hot and the vocal needs to come up - was having to "lean into it" rather than it floating to me.
Hope that makes sense; would like to listen "effortlessly", so to speak. Seems like some low-end, something in the middle, coming in earlier to complement to the vocal would help, too.
Lastly - the hook, and therefore the title, centers around the lyric - Worth It All.
3 cents from The Peanut Gallery.

:? song's got potential - therefore fixing those little things would be (drum-roll, please - you guessed it) Worth It All!

Hi Tom,

I listened yesterday and didn't know what to say. I listened again today and I'm still not 100% on what you should do. But here it goes.

To me there are just too many different sections that don't work with each other. While they may be interesting on their own, you're losing my ear when you switch between them. So the songs needs some major editing IMO.

I'd work on getting to the chorus much sooner. I love the guitar lick at 0:59, but it should probably come in at 0:39. So I'd work on editing the verse and pre down. And on the verse and pre, either choose the piano or the acoustic guitar as the main instrument (don't introduce the electric guitar until the chorus). IMO I'd go with the piano and some backing pads. At the moment you lose all your momentum when you hit the pre.

Now as to that first chorus it's only half there. If it were me, I'd kick the song into high gear immediately, using the last chorus arrangement right off the bat (though save those backing vocals until the end of the song). And once I've established that energy I'm not going to let it go until the songs is over.

Finally, the song might benefit from another singer. At the moment I don't think his vocal is treated properly for the song, so remixing it might fix things. But it might not. There's nothing wrong with the vocal, it's good, but I think it could be better.

I know this sounds like a lot of changes, but in reading it over, it's not. I think you can make this song really good by following these ideas.

Good luck with it!

John

Lots of potential Tom A couple of things? That riff that is going on one side started to work on me. The one with those six notes. Good riff, but could stand a little change in there IMHO Like to hear a little verb on that vocal. That's all for now :)

Thanks Peter John and Paul.

I think the main thing I'm hearing is that the song is hanging back too much and not getting to the chorus in a big way. That is what I felt when I first heard it. Also Tim changed the lyrics in the first chorus and used the secong half of the chorus " Love's the only thing we know " instead of " Love is worth it when it works " which I think is why he didn't make it a big chorus and just made it another part of the song which eventually leads up to the chorus. I've already let Susan know that the song needs to have more momentum in the beginning. I think there is a lot of work to do on this one.

Eventually this song is going to be a duet so that might soften Tims ( very rootsy ) voice as you mentioned John.

Thanks everyone for confirming what I was thinking when I first heard it. Back to the drawing board.

Tom - what's strikes me as kind of ironic - we often read or hear of the "high bar" of Country songs & listings.
And, in this case - with One Way Ticket - you've managed to set your own bar so high, that anything less than that song
is gonna make something new struggle to meet expectations. Know what I mean? :?

So, the mantra: "You're only as good as your latest song..." makes write/submit/forget/repeat even more challenging.
BUT - for you and your team, that's probably not such a bad problem to have... to have a potentially big HIT on your hands.
Good luck, Amigo -
now get back to work. :?
Just kiddin' withya some.

Hey Peter, you crack me up  I needed a good laugh this morning. Songs are like our children and just like stars in the sky, some are not as bright as others  even though we love them all :D

But I will keep up the mantra of, write/submit/ have a drink/ repeat ( have another drink )/ etc. etc. etc.

Have a great day Peter!

Tom
