can one add some rock sounds to a country song?
My 13 year old granddaughter sends me this "hey gramps, I am on my way to a softball tournament and I thought up these lyrics. I will sing it later if you could put down the chords and maybe a melody line....also I like things in G as you know:) Ok, so I started the song using my PRS dry through my 610 and it sounded real clean. After I finished I thought it was pretty boring so I added another rock track with snarl. Don't know if that works. Also if you can see any corrections that can be made to the lyrics. I don't get the song, but I also don't get 13 year olds either.

Grace demo song ……….Intro G C G D
There’s no need to complicate it ……..there’s no need to hide or fake it
Holding on like there’s no tomorrow all your pain and all your sorrow
Running fast but you’re going nowhere It’l take time, but you’ll get there
The road is long but you’re fighting thru…holding on to the light inside of you
Chorus
I won’t stop even though I’m losing Keeping the faith even if it’s broken
When everybody’s sayin you can’t do it…be the one to prove it show them prove it yeah

Thanks for trying John. I just tried it and it worked. I only post songs there that are a WIP. No biggie. My granddaughter has to sing it this weekend anyway.
The best to you

Hi Paul. I tried to listen but I couldn't get it to load either. But to answer your question, living here in Nashville you can certainly add rock elements to country! I try to stay off the GNR and Poison distortion (lol) but a good crunchy elec guitar sound works great.
Here's one I just had signed last week with some slide guitar. Btw not me on guitar, I'm just the writer and bass player. Best, John

Hi Jonny P Nice to meet you. Just listened to your song. Man, you are way out of my league. ha ha I am 70 years old and wish I would have gotten started recording a long time ago. Your song is awesome. Your singer is very convincing and the storyline is perfect. My granddaughter lost interest in this, so I'm not sure what to do with it. I sang it only as a melody line guide. I only use soundcloud when I am finished with a song. I use soundclick for the demo's I changed it now, but here at Taxi, I am not listened too often. I guess it's like someone asking you to look at their baby pictures. Anywho, good luck with your song. it does have it going:)
Sincerely
Paul

Re: can one add some rock sounds to a country song?
Paul, thanks for the kind words and 70 is not old. One of my co-writers is in that ballpark and I'm only about ten behind you. To me it's all about listening to what is on the radio now and finding the elements that appeal to us. We don't have the same vernacular as teens, millennials so sometimes the lyrics seem to be nonsense but the bass part is way cool!
I listen to alternative rock stations all the time when I'm driving because they incorporate really cool grooves, lyric syncopation, melodies and rhythms. Those constantly change and I'm always trying to learn and catch up. It certainly transfers over to modern country and my new fav Indie Folk.
You're doing the right thing collaborating with your Granddaughter. I've got 3 sons from 14-28 and I am influenced constantly by their playlists. Best of luck! John
