Guitar-based urban instrumentals

Post by Coffeeinthesink » Wed Jul 25, 2018 5:00 pm

I'm taking a swing at the "guitar-based urban instrumental" listing and I thought it would be much easier. Every guitar I add on a somewhat hip-hop beat just makes it sound like bad funk or "jambandy". The references have very little guitar on them in two cases, and the other is just an acoustic playing the same part throughout. I'm struggling to add melody as well via synth/keys because it sounds a little corny with every effort. This basically leaves me with a repetitive rhythm track.

Can anyone help me find a good reference instrumental track for this type of listing? Everything I've found has been a very different type of urban/hip-hop sound.

Just to answer my own question, I started digging through music libraries and filtered based on urban and guitar and found some decent examples. I think I may have been trying to add too much melody into the thing and wasn't making the drums as central as they should have been. Still open to input nonetheless. :)
