What % of forwards result in a deal?

Post by coxnvox » Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:53 am

Curious to know what you folks that have gotten deals through Taxi forwards think...is it 5%? 10%? I've heard you might expect a deal for every 80-90 forwards. Does this match your experience?
Thanks in advance for any input!

Hi Kerry,

My first 160 forwards got me deals with 23 libraries.
BUT, my last 120 forwards have got zero. Kind of odd!

My 2 cents,
Tim

Over how many months did you get the last 120 forwards?

It's not an exact science. For me, 140 forwards led to three library deals. None of those forwarded tracks were placed, but I have placed others with each of these libraries. There are so many factors involved that each person's situation is unique.

So you haven’t signed a new deal directly from forwards in 2 1/2 years? That doesn’t make sense. You should have a few deals by now.

I wouldn’t submit anything else for a while. Others may disagree, but I believe that whoever these libraries or companies are have wasted your time.

I certainly hope that you have not been holding back from submitting your music to companies directly. Your music should be out there working for you, not sitting in a digital parking lot waiting for review.

Yes...it is kind of odd......

I have tons of stuff on TV and commercials.
My current libraries always asking for more stuff...
But not 1 callback for the last 120 forwards...almost 3 years.

Really wierd because before...I was getting a deal 1 for about every 7 forwards.

I must of lost the magic touch!

There is a lot more competition too. Tons of new music out there flooding the market.

You should work with the libraries you have music with and try to fill specific needs. Ask to write to briefs. That way, your music will be fed to clients quicker. A month can be long enough for clients to switch directions or change their minds.

Yes, I do write to their specific needs...when possible!
Of course...sometimes it's not possible .... (we need a hit country song with vocals by 5pm).. No problemo,...comin' right up! ..are ya sure you only need 1...cause I give ya 2 !!!! Ha!

And yes, I completely agree that the market is flooded with competition. ..( I believe Paulie mentioned this in a different post).
