Re: Country/Pop - but what decade? Contemporary 'enuff'?
Hey Peter, I kind of live in the wrong part of the world to comment on this one, but great recording and performance. I Like it.

Hey Peter, nice song! I've heard this plenty in the past from other posts of yours, but it was nice to stream it again today. Do you have a particular listing in mind for this?

Not a specific or current listing, Professor - but getting a consensus of its 'age' might help me be on the lookout for a good fit.VanderBoegh wrote:Hey Peter, nice song! Hi Peter, I get an Achy Breaky Heart feel to this one so I'd say early nineties. Sort of Amazing Rhythm Aces feel too so it could reach back a little further.
Really nice cruiser.

Peter. Is that a drum machine you're using? The snare drum is dating it to me, as are the backing vocals. This tune has a Jimmy Buffett feel to me, specifically the vocal and the acoustic guitar riff.
So late 80's early 90's. Though the lead vocal could be contemporary, given how nicely it's recorded and mixed.

EDIT: sorry - my bad - the subject line 2nd question was misleading - I've deleted it.johnlewitt wrote:Peter. Is that a drum machine you're using? Thanks for the ears, John; to answer your question/comments, here are some of the specs for this production
1) I was LOOSELY using Keith Urban's (with Carrie Underwood) song "The Fighter" - and his use of programmed drums & synths as my "a la".
2) So, there's a combination of programmed drums (by someone else) along with me adding live cymbal washes and hand percussion;
3) Nashville guy did the lead vocal - I did the BGVs & acoustic guitars;
4) Not necessarily trying to be New Country or contemporary - rather, more true to something I would like & listen to, and hope to hear on the radio.
I like Jimmy Buffett's music; but I don't quite hear him doing a song like this. More likely Billy Currington (People Are Crazy)... more his edge that Jimmy's.
But - different ears hear different things. I'll take that as a compliment.
Cheers!

Hi Peter
Nice song! I have heard this one before. I have to agree with John that this one has a strong Jimmy Buffet feel. Something like " Margaritaville " Your song has the same type of humor that Jimmy Buffet always puts in his song. " Pair of eyes, Paradise ". Anyway, I like this song and I would also agree that it would be more around the 80s and early 90s. Great for film and TV for that time period. Anyway, just my 2 cents. Write on
