I've heard this song before and it does have an older sound, kind of reminds me of Garth Brooks " Friends in Low Places ", but I guess because of the lyrics about a relationship, it kind of draws you in. So it's like they say " Everything old is new again " at least to another generation. Nice song though

My point is mainly the instrumentation - seems pedal-steel is usually reserved for "Old School" - rarely found in New/Contemporary Country,
where it's been replaced with distorted Rock-sounding guitars. Yuk.

Hi Peter,
This song reminds me a bit of ol school Randy Travis, Mark Chesnut stuff. Very well written song of course and that's the key in my opinion..Yeah the steel and fiddle sound 90's but hey, hasn't the 80's influenced rock run it's course? Time to step up to the next decade lol. From what I'm hearing from ad agencies here in town "Americana" or anything roots oriented is really beginning to surge. Not so much Mumford & Sons folk but more honest, intimate heartfelt acoustic driven. Just my 2.

Apparently, this song was put on hold by George Strait, and when he released it Jon Pardi snapped it up. So, yeah - old school vibe for sure - but such a great song in the way it twists the hook.

I have to agree - those first few melodic notes ring like Garth's Low Places opening.

Well - as a huge George Strait/Alan Jackson/Josh Turner/Easton Corbin/Randy Travis - you know, fan of all those great 'classic'-sounding voices backed by bands with steel guitar & fiddle & B3... that's where the magic happens for well-written songs. And that article pretty much expresses the same reaction I had to the first listen to Jon Pardi's rendition of it. He beat Alan Jackson to the punch, sort of - cause he woulda/coulda had another #1 with it, too.

Thanks for sharing this song, Peter. Its one of the best Country songs that I've heard in awhile. I've been sharing it with old bandmates of mine. No of them had heard it. You've made a bunch of old Country musicians very happy.
