Sample Cue list - "Pet Cribs"

Post by Paulie » Sun Sep 23, 2018 2:50 pm

My day job has had me traveling a lot this year so I've been trying to kill time on planes by doing music research. If there is a show I'm writing for I will find it online and capture the audio of the entire episode (I use Audio Hijack) and then analyze it to see what is the editor is choosing these days.

Another option is to take advantage of the free streaming entertainment on flights and pick a show to analyze. The goal is to get an understanding of the ratio of genres within a show, which cues are longer than others, etc. This is the sort of "yellow legal pad" activities Michael sometimes references on Taxi TV.

Below are the results for an episode of "Pet Cribs." This show uses a ton of different styles... the descriptions all mean something to me, each person will have their own shorthand or nomenclature. This one hour show used 76 cues. (For some perspective, a Kardashians episode I went through alts used 76, while the 'Forged In Fire' episode I analyzed last week used 126 cues). Hope this is useful to someone. :)

Very interesting. Thanks for posting that Paulie! With all that airplane time I guess that means your flight to the Rally will be paid for with airline miles...
