Bluesy/Alt Rock enough?

Post by JohnnyP » Thu Aug 09, 2018 5:39 pm

Hi,
Would love any feedback on this song I'm thinking of submitting for the listing below. Any opinion would be appreciated. Thanks, John

BLUESY ALT-ROCK SONGS with Male Vocals are needed by an excellent Film/TV Music Library that has a TON of awesome placements in many high-end Films and TV Shows. They’re looking for current-sounding Mid-to-Up-Tempo Songs that could fit in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the references below: “Way Down We Go” by Kaleo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-7IHOXkiV8

“Fire” by Barns Courtney: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLEoictM8p4

“Legendary” by Welshly Arms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2CZn966cUg

Give them gritty Blues-inspired Alt-Rock songs that have all the appeal of the references above, including outstanding melodies, great lyrics, and an anthemic, in-your-face chorus. Your production must feel on par with the bands listed above, and your performances should be packed with great musicianship. Send us that current-sounding, post-BLACK KEYS stuff, and not the traditional Blues stuff! We’re not looking for B.B. King...The modern trends are key, here.

Lyric themes can vary, but should be something you’d typically hear in the Blues/Rock genre. Please avoid references to specific brands, places, dates, times, names, and profanity. Do NOT copy the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Genre-Appropriate Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so please be sure the songs you pitch for this opportunity are NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. Any sync fees will be split 50/50 with the Company. You’ll get 100% of the Writer’s share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher’s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit. Please submit as many Songs as you’d like online or per CD.All submissions will be screened and critiqued by a TAXI and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Saturday, August 25th, 2018. John,

I think you are on the right track- your tune sounds a lot like the examples. The only thing I noticed is that in the examples, the chorus sounds huge compared to the verse or pre-chorus (in the case of the Welsh arms tune). I think they achieve this by holding back a bit- Barns hold back the big drums and electric guitars for the chorus. Welsh Arms goes down to just an organ in the pre-chorus, with no drums. Then it sort of explodes in the chorus.

Not sure you need to do that, but it's something I noticed.

Best,

Vince

Hi Vince thanks for the comments and thanks for listening.
That's a great observation. I hadn't noticed that, and I will see about toying with that pre a little bit.
Thanks again! Best, John

Sounds good to me. Chorus has plenty of power. I listened to the reference track and the chorus to me was way overdone in that you could just barely hear the vocal??? Great track IMHO
