Can Rockabilly slide into the Rock/Country or Pop/Country market?

Can Rockabilly slide into the Rock/Country or Pop/Country market?

Post by PaulaRay » Thu Nov 01, 2018 9:24 am

I set out to write a country song and a Rockabilly song popped out. In my head I was picturing Miranda Lambert singing or Natalie from Dixie Chicks. Is it off base to submit a Rockabilly inspired song when the cue is seeking up-tempo rock/country or pop/country? I know the worse that can happen is the song doesn't get forwarded, but I don't want to make a bad first impression with Taxi screeners either.

If the drums are prominent, that is to say, if it rocks, you can probably submit it for Alt-Country listings, but possibly not Americana, though the difference can sometimes be subtle. These days,a lot of Americana sounds like it could have been written, performed and sometimes even recorded in the 1930s. Drive-By Truckers = Alt-Country, Sweetheart Of The Rodeo = Americana, and if it sounds like 70s Southern Rock = Pop Country.
