Nice Piece and on the mark vibe wise considering the "love song.." ref.
I hear and agree with the comments above re: timing. Its a hard feel because of the "swing" - if you aren't being really particular about timing and accents it feels a little like it wasn't played like your life depended on it.
I go through and either quantize to the drums - you can do this using the groove track in Logic X: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH12952?lo ... cale=en_US
or if you use the groove track and then solo the piano, and it still feels a little underplayed, you might have to go in and quantize certain parts against the actual click - and even adjust some velocities so the down beats are a little louder against the "off beats".
related to what TimT and Lester said - we are used to hearing everything "perfect" these days, so you could probably quantize it fairly heavily and as long as the velocities / how hard you played each note supported the phrasing you would likely have a better result.
Re: AKAI MPK88
I have one and its okay here - but if the action feels stiff you can adjust the velocity curve so that you can play a little lighter and still get a range from 0 to 127 https://www.manualslib.com/manual/39870 ... ml?page=37
I would try that first and if that doesn't improve things then go spend more $$$.
Good luck!

Re: What is this saying? "Intentionality"?
Thanks for this, Paula, and yes I do play rather flat fingered and I'm NOT a concert pianist So thank you for your observation, and I appreciate it! (I was away from these forums for awhile, so sorry for the late reply.) I guess the bottom line is "intentionality" was the odd thing I didn't understand...if the reviewer had said "rhythm problem" I'd probably never have posted, so there you go.PaulaRay wrote:It sounds like your index and middle finger on your right hand are too straight and you are hitting the key with your finger pad instead of your finger tip. I say this because when a person plays "flat-fingered" it is often hard to get complete control of the rhythm. If you play as if your are almost hitting your fingernail with rounded fingers - you'll be able to even out your rhythm better because each finger will hit with more strength. You can even drum the table like this and see the difference - curved fingers vs flat fingers. Practicing scales and Hanon exercises to a metronome click are great exercises for improving steady fingers.
Have a great day.

Everyone has pretty much said the same thing. The screener was using "nice" words instead of being more direct and saying that the time was not solid enough throughout the piece. That's what the metronome/click comment was about.
Quantizing is needed these days, but it's a little more difficult with a piece like this that has a slight shuffle feel to it. One thing you can do is duplicate the piano track, leaving the original alone as a master copy. Mute it, or disable it, then mess around with the quantizing on the new track. Logic has several different swing 8th and swing 16th quantize options, and you can also adjust the strength percentage of the quantization.
Very good piece, you nailed the listing requirements. So, while it may be a return now, with some tweaking you've got a good cue to use in the future!
