What is that plugin / effect?
Hi Guys,
Looking at the reference in listing TAXI # Y181125PE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS2ifrLAadU), in 00:48 they seem to use a harmoniser effect similar to what Jacob Collier uses (although his effect seems to be a custom made pedal made by someone at MIT). Do you know what that plugin/effect could be (or what could get the job done)? It sounds like a plugin and not like recorded vocal harmonies (maybe they did it manually in Melodyne or Revoice but it sounds more like a vocal synth to me). Can the Izotope Vocalsynth do that (I do not yet own that one...)? Please let me know your thoughts. I already did a lot of research and would really appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction (in other words, I am already passed the "I do not know what it is but it could be..." ).
Cheers,
Matt

Re: What is that plugin / effect?
It almost sounds like a cleverly processed and layered vocoder to me...? I listen to a lot of 80s synthpop / alternative and that's what immediately pops in my mind. Of course, I would be way off. But it sounds like vocoder is the foundation.

I also thought Vocoder but it sounds very clean and preserves the timbre of the voice... I think it is a harmoniser but doing research I could not find any plugin who does the same thing (other than Izotopes Vocal Synth but watching the video I am unclear as to whether it is capable of doing that).

Maybe it's a harmonizer and vocoder. I keep thinking vocoder because I'm not hearing any consonants, particularly on "ticking". So maybe they are using a vocoder on the lyric with a patch that resembles the timbre of the voice and harmonizing that? I might have to experiment with that sometime

It's hard to say exactly what was used, but I think most if not all could be similarly replicated by using something like zplane Vielklang. the formants, pitch, speed, vibrato/tremolo. Melodyne also,or even auto tune.

I used to use MVocoder by Melda to get this effect. Nowadays most of us are using this:(https://www.izotope.com/en/products/cre ... synth.html)
You can get that exact effect using VS2...which leads me to believe they may be using it as well. It's very popular for this effect now, even though there are many other ways to get that sound.
