Ears needed for Novelty Country Listing WIP

Post by mikemichnya » Tue Dec 04, 2018 8:44 pm

This song might be too lyrically complicated for this listing (compared to the reference track), but I'm considering it. Any feedback (especially mix) is appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mike

Adult ADD

Recently my dad and me
Had a date to do some fishing
I got concerned when he no showed
Cause it’s not like him to miss it
He said, ‘Son, I’m glad you called,
I’ve got a terrible affliction.
Let me tell you how I diagnosed
My sad condition.

I’d just finished breakfast
Couldn’t find my reading glasses
Poured a second cup of coffee
And went looking in the office
Not on my desk or by the chair
Where I found my keys
I wondered if I left ‘em on the porch
When I went out there to read

With keys in hand I went outside
It was hot and getting hotter
The garden looked pathetic
It could use a little water
As I strolled across the front lawn
To the hose layin’ in the driveway
My eyes fell on the ‘please wash me’
Scrawled in the dirt of our Chevrolet

I went over to the garage
To get a chamois and a pail
Where I bumped into the mailman
Delivering the daily mail
I thought I better sort that first
‘Fore I got all wet and dirty
So I went back into the house
Around about ten thirty

Tossed my car keys on the table
Threw the junk mail in the bin
Noticed it was overfull
Decided to empty it
It occurred to me that I’d be going
Past the mailbox on my way
Reminded me of the stack of bills
I’d been forgetting I had to pay

I s’posed I oughta pay them first
Got my checkbook from the desk
Sat down at the table to find
There was only one check left
The spare checks are in the office
Where sat the coffee I was drinking
Of course, it was cold by then
So I nuked it in the kitchen

(Instrumental break)

On the counter by the microwave
Was the lost TV remote
I knew we were gonna need it later
When we’d go to watch our shows
I wouldn’t remember where I left it
If I had to think
I was about to take it to the den
When I heard the doorbell ring

A pair of Jehova’s witnesses
Were smiling on the porch
I love talking ‘bout religion
Cause all’s fair in holy war
We did battle for an hour
And when all was said and done
They left me unconverted
And I chuckled at my fun

That's when it occurred to me
The day had got away
I never found my glasses
Never washed the Chevrolet
The garden still needs water
Lost my keys and the remote
I didn’t pay a single bill
The bin’s still overflowed

I was confused and baffled
By how little I did today
I was hungry and exhausted
And busy the whole darn day
So I fired up the PC
Did some research on the web
Age activated ADD
Is messing with my head

I was gonna call to tell you
Couldn't make it to the lake
But I got distracted
Posting on my Facebook page
I know this problem’s serious
I’m gonna get help soon
Go ahead, keep laughing, son,
Your day’s coming too

Yeah, go ahead, keep laughing, son,
Your day’s coming too

Here's the listing:

NOVELTY-Style, COUNTRY HYBRID SONGS with Male, Female, or Duet Vocals are needed for an (up to) $25,000 placement by a very successful Multi-Media Company/Producer that needs the perfect song for a big Animated Feature Film!

They’re looking for an Up-Tempo Song that would fall within the general stylistic ballpark of the following reference we got from our client:

“Cotton Eye Joe” by Rednex

They’re looking for a Song that would work well as a replacement for “Cotton Eye Joe,” which is currently temped in. To be clear: They’re NOT looking for clones or sound-alikes! Similar tempo, energy, and overall vibe? Yes. Clones? No!

Quoting the Source: “The song should have the same energy and tempo as the temp song “Cotton Eye Joe” – BPM is 128. It could be a little faster as well, but not less than that."

Please submit well-crafted Country songs that are that are packed with tons of energy and combined with contemporary Dance/EDM elements and beats. Your submissions can have a bit of a quirky quality to them, but don’t go too left-of-center. Think of the type of song that could work well in a comical, high-energy chase scene.

TAXI Tip: If you already have a Country song that fits the vibe of the reference, consider just creating a remix version by creating a hybrid of Dance/EDM elements into your Song.

They didn’t specify any lyric themes; however, lyrics that avoid references to specific names, dates, times, brands, and profanity are strongly recommended. Do NOT copy the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. Broadcast Quality is needed.

The estimated license fee for this placement is between $15,000 - $25,000, depending on the ultimate placement. This Company offers an EXCLUSIVE agreement with a 50/50 split. The specific terms will be determined directly between you and the Company. Because this is an Exclusive deal, please do NOT submit music for this pitch that is already signed to any other Libraries or Publishers. You must own or control your Copyright and Master recording. Please submit as many Songs as you like online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a yes/no basis by a screener hand picked by the client – no full critiques. Submissions must be received ~~no later than 11:59PM~~ (PST), on Thursday, December 6th, 2018. TAXI #Y181206CH

Hi Mike,

haha, what a funny song - who couldn't identify with having a day (or many days) like that ?!

I imagine that the very complex lyrics without a big repetitive chorus might be a problem for this listing though, like you said - because they make the song very non-universal it could be hard to place in a TV scene... musically it seems to fit well though.

Wishing you luck if you decided to submit it!

Thanks, Maya. Glad you found it humorous. I gave it a shot, but 'not what they were looking for' as I figured.
