hi guys -
If a vocal track is released along with an alternate instrumental mix, and subsequently only the instrumental mix is used, how do you handle the splits for the vocalist and/or instrumentalist?
TIA
Jay

Re: splits for vocalists on instrumental versions
I split everything 50/50 even if only the instrumental is used. (Assuming the vocalist is a co-writer).
Some thoughts... If it weren't for the vocal version, the instrumental mix probably wouldn't even exist. And many libraries that accept your vocal songs also ask for a version without vocal. You have no control over whether or not a music sup uses the version with or without the vocal.
Same thing when you write the music and your co-writer writes the lyrics. If only the instrumental is used, it's still a 50/50.

I always go 50/50 on everything. Clean, simple, done.

eeoo and Casey H thank you kindly for your replies.
that's kind of what I figured, just wanted to check before I shop certain tracks, and it does make sense.
have a great year what's left of it!
