Reference by Mastering The Mix?

Has anyone used Reference by Mastering The Mix? It is a low-cost alternative to Izotope Tonal Balance Control.

I haven't used them, but it reminds me somewhat of the spectrum matching eq's. Here's a perspective on the izotope plugin:https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/home-p ... ol-plug-in

I'm not saying they can't be useful in analysis, just perhaps not necessarily practical and could send you going down rabbit holes you might not otherwise pursue. eqing or affecting something that is not there in the first place is next to impossible.
I'm thinking of the old mic modellers as an example. You aren't going to turn a cheap dynamic mic into a neumann. You might get there tonally, but convincingly?

Imo, it's more about what characteristics that you like about your references, and trying to choose equipment and effects that are most representative of those qualities.

Hi Lamar

I have Reference
It's a great tool
You can drag and drop files more than one into the program and then compare your mix.
You can resize and isolate frequency zones and match accordingly.
Best understood when you watch the instructional videos

If you are doing hip hop import your favourite tune
If you are into modern country bring in some Keith Urban

The coolest thing is the level match that reference does

.It is a cool thing and another one of mastering the mix offerings is Levels which is incredible

I am really fond of Izotope's Tonal Balance Control and it took me some time (going through various promotions/upgrades...Xmas etc.) to ultimately own it ;) but mixing mostly on headphones (due to a very small and not treated man cave) it gives me some degree of certainty as to how well the mix translates to other listening environments.

Thanks for writing, Don! I am working my way through Ozone 8 Standard now. It is being purchased through Splice's Rent To Own program. The training videos on Groove3 help a lot. Still, there's so much to learn and only so many hours in the day.

I like Izotope plugins. I've used Nectar for quite awhile. Ozone is fairly new to me, so the process seems to be moving at a snail's pace. I sure hope that I get comfortable with it soon. Thanks for writing!
