Compensation For Work Accepted

Post by johndalenow » Sat Jan 12, 2019 8:01 pm

I am a "new guy" so can anyone enlighten me as to what are some customary forms and terms of compensation for accepted work? EG royalties, commissions, one-time payments, continuing payments, etc. Is it typical for royalties to be paid for years, similar to insurance company payments to sales agents? I realize it could be somewhat different libraries and users.

Thanks in advance for your responses!

John

Hi John,

There are many many different answers.....

Royalties are the most common way to receive payment for your music.
Royalties from placements on shows can go on for many many years....
The amount per show also varies greatly..... from a few cents to hundreds of dollars per play per show.

Some libraries will pay you up front for your tracks...... but this is not very common.

There are also times that you may receive a sync fee for music used in commercials or TV shows ....
those payments can also vary greatly.... from several hundred dollars to tens of thousands.

I hope this helps!
Tim

Hi and welcome John!

+1 to what Tim said.

Don't remember exactly how much compensation is covered in this video, but regardless it will be hugely hugely helpful for you as a new member.

If you didn't already know - every Monday there is a free episode of Taxi TV Live. Can't recommend watching enough, and if you can watch live and get in the chat room. I've learned tons via Taxi TV. Secondly would be the forums, but you're already here.. so kudos to you. You're on the right track.
