It's hard to keep track of which drives are what, lol!
C drive is a flash drive, D (hard drive), E??, F drive (external hd)
Windows and Pro Tools was once on the flash drive?? what version of windows are you using?

Re: Pro Tools Always Crashing
Correct. No E.
Yes, Pro Tools the program is on the C with Windows.
Libraries/samples etc. on the D.
I am experimenting with the session I am working on being on the D or the F, but both crash.
Windows 10, and I just ran an update this morning, which didn't help.
I also updated my NVIDIA graphics card drivers.
I am using an old M Box as my interface. I understand Pro Tools uses it's sound card(?).
I never felt the need to upgrade it until now. Do you think a better interface will help?
I am on Pro Tools 2018.12. I am thinking the only other option is to delete this version and roll back to 2018.10..

Re: Pro Tools Always Crashing
I'm not exactly sure what is wrong...... when does it crash.... right in the middle of working on a track? What is the error msg? ...or does it just freeze?
Also ....can you upgrade to 32 GB of RAM ?
I was having all kinds of problems when I only had 24GB RAM.....
I added 8GB more and all the problems STOPPED! ( my PC would only take a max of 32 GB).
Or course...without knowing the error you are getting...it is hard to say if more memory will help.

Re: Pro Tools Always Crashing
Hi Tim!
It normally crashes when I hit save. When it does crash PT just closes, no error message.
I then have to reboot the computer before I can reopen PT.
It would be possible to upgrade to 32 GB, but a pricey solution.
Avid have told me to delete my preferences and download Asio4All.
It's been 20 minutes since I did that and no crash yet. I can also save.
We'll see if this is a real fix or not.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Pro Tools Always Crashing
Steve - did you do all the normal things when an app goes screwy?
Delete the preference files etc? usually that goes a long way to getting some usability back.
Also try opening a new clean empty PT session and do the selective track import from the old session to make a new session with the same attributes.

Re: Pro Tools Always Crashing
Hi Andy,
Yeah I spent about half the day doing these things. Deleting preferences, uninstalling Pro Tools 2018.12 and rolling back to 2018.10 - which didn't work at all.
Then re-installing PT 2018.12.
The last thing I did was install Asio4All, and since then it hasn't crashed! I don't know much about this driver but it appears to be working.
I managed to finish the cue, so next time I'll be starting a fresh session again.
I think upgrading RAM is probably not a bad idea anyway, although 16 GB should be plenty for the tiny sessions I am working on.
Thanks.

Re: Pro Tools Always Crashing
if asioforall is working, then it's likely the drivers for your old interface weren't or weren't supported by the PT update. For stability reasons,
I think I would put Windows and Pro Tools on an ssd . $40-50 for a 240gb.
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/comp ... eripherals compatible interfaces.
I would probably still upgrade your interface. there are plenty of reasonably priced usb mixers https://www.sweetwater.com/c264--USB_An ... s/low2high

Re: Pro Tools Always Crashing
Hey Steve,
Glad you got it running..... Yes the ASIO driver can mess up ProTools.
I once had a similar problem using an MBox.... All of a sudden PT would not load any tracks.
After hours and hours of trying to find out what was wrong ....
I finally downloaded a new driver for the MBox and everything was fine.
