I just got a return for a vintage country tune. The listing was for
"Y190118CO
ORIGINAL, VINTAGE COUNTRY SONGS with Male or Female Vocals that were RECORDED BEFORE the year 1990 ...The recording quality is not expected to be on par with today’s broadcast quality! Good demos and master recordings are all of interest to this company!
The comment was.. "Hi Linda,
Cool groove but it's not the Classic Country that's being asked for and the recording/production could be improved on."
I can understand it not making the classic country genre but
The reason selected was for Recording.
I can't modify/improve an original vintage recording as the listing wants just that. Right? Like run it through my daw and really make it sound awesome??
Here is a link to the recording from 1982 (recorded on 4 track)

I also have had another return that also suggested improving the recording/production on a vintage 80's recording...(not from the same screener)
I have also had a vintage recording signed that could have been improved on...
Food for thought I guess!

I'm too new to music production to have any "vintage" recordings but I'm curious about this dilemma.
Would love to hear from others who faced this issue - is there a subtle way to please the screeners by improving a vintage recording while still retaining the vintage feel?

Re: Vintage Critique from #411
I know..... like can I take 4 tracks of vintage music on reel to reel, record them into my DAW, adjust the mix, then mixdown onto cassette (vintage method) or bypass that and make a .wav file?
I think I will ask the person I work with at the vintage library I am signed with. They wanted the old master on cassette, halftrack, dat, vhs.. converted to .wav which I had..I will let you know what he says..because I have songs on 4 track that were never mixed down to 2 track like the one I submitted.
