3 for 3!

Post by JohnnyP » Wed Feb 20, 2019 5:06 pm

After going to the Road Rally last year and listening to "The Highfields" in a panel talk about their take on advertising music I decided to model some things off of their approach.
First of all their songs are so well thought out and produced..
Secondly The Highfields are just freakin' awesome! In their music they get to the point and drive it home like every advertiser wants. Also they do it in an extremely artistic and fun way. Can't say that enough.

So I produced 3 songs in 3 diff genres-Singer songwriter, Indie Folk, and Indie rock and used 3 different vocalists and submitted to one of my favorite libraries . They just signed all 3 which is a first for me.

Thanks to TAXI for turning me on to The Highfields and being the vehicle which helped me sign 66 vocal songs and 22 instrumental songs in 2018. Looking forward to Rally '19

"Gimme The Good Stuff" is just an awesome freakin' contemporary track. You nailed the Highfield's vibe for sure!

Great job John and congrats on signing with what sounds like a great Library!!

WOW. Congratulations! This is awesome!
You not by any chance looking for any female vocalists/co-writers at the moment haha... because I'd love to pick your brain and smash out some listings! I'm based in Australia but I have studio gear at home that I record all my stems on.

Definitely going to have to look up this Highfields group and see what the buzz is about because that is a killer track record!

Have a great weekend,

Hi Shalee,
Thanks for the nice words! I got on your site today. Really wonderful songs that sound great and it looks like you've got a bunch of good stuff going on! :) By the way I use a mastering engineer over in Queensland.

"You not by any chance looking for any female vocalists/co-writers at the moment haha"

Living in Nashville everyone seems to co-write and I tried for several years with about 30 diff writers w very limited success. Since learning Logic in 2017, almost all of my vocal songs are solo written/produced-and that's when I started having songs signed-go figure! I think it's because being sole writer/producer I can agonize over each word, melody and melodic rhythm and not have to tick off a co-writer with my constant changes and slowness :D
I do use a bunch of diff vocalists and your genres are a bit diff from what I've done so you never know! I like new challenges. Thanks again.

John,

Nicely done! What was the panel topic? I went last year as well, the Rally was definitely like drinking from the firehose but tons of good info.

Thanks Dave, the panel topic was something along the lines of writing for Commercials/Advertising. Rob Chiarelli was the moderator. That was my fav workshop of them all.
