Monkees Bass Player Passes Away

Post by dotted8 » Thu Feb 21, 2019 5:14 pm

For you old farts out there like me, Peter Tork of the Monkees passed away today. I remember watching those old corny Monkees TV shows when I was a kid. Here is a link to a Rollingstone article about him and his passing if interested.

RIP Peter. Loved the Monkees back in the day. Say what you will about them, but they had their own TV show, sold 35 million albums (more than the Beatles and Stones combined), and toured with Jimi Hendrix. Works for me!

Thanks for the memories, Peter. Godspeed.

Indeed - if not already - HOF for the band is certainly appropriate.
FWIW: some of those opening TV show shots of them on the beach, and in and around The Hotel Del Coronado - were, duh, filmed right here on our hometown island.
Thanks for posting this, Rob.
Cheers.

Very sad. I was and still am a HUGE Monkees fan. It not for the Monkees, back around 1967 (I was 12-13), I may have never gotten into popular music and learned to play guitar. They were a major, major influence on me.

My brother and I loved the Monkees so we got 2 cheap guitars and this book:

We learned a few chords and how to play songs like "Last Train To Clarksville" and "I'm A Believer". From there, we started listening to the radio and all those hit songs of the 60s. What's funny is I didn't get into the Beatles until a little later on.

And that damn F chord!! I remember neither my brother or I could hold 2 strings down with one finger so we played what we found out later was Fmaj7!

So, everything I've done as far as playing guitar and songwriting was due to the Monkees.

As you know, they had great songwriters writing for them: Goffin & King, Neil Diamond, etc.

RIP Peter Tork. I hope you get to jam with Davy Jones up there!

:( Casey

Thanks for posting this notice. One by one, I'm losing my childhood musical heroes. :(
Onward and upward!
