Do you always get an answer from submitted songs, regardless of it being a forward or a return?

Yes, absolutely! Some take longer than others. My experience has been generally 4-6 weeks, but sometimes sooner.

Does it take that long regardless of whether it's a forward or a return, or in case of a forward it goes faster?

I've found no rhyme or reason on the timing of info either way.
The screeners do their best to release the info as soon as it's viable.
I know it's tough waiting and not knowing in the beginning...
Keep writing tunes and stay so busy that it doesn't distract you!

It takes the same amount of time whether a forward or return. They don't release results at all until all submissions have been screened.

Sometimes I've gotten an answer 1-2 days after a listing closes, and other times it's been 30+ days (rare). I think some listings really pull in lots of submissions, so of course they would take longer.

It also can depend on whether the listing requires a specific screener due to the expertise needed or it's by a client who screens their own. Also some clients request specific screeners. Many factors. As been said, it can be from a few days to 6 weeks.

Patience is a virtue... and a necessity!!
