Need Ears on Hick Hop track

Post by LamarPecorino » Thu Mar 14, 2019 12:55 pm

Just finished working on a track for the following listing. Conrad and I would really appreciate any thoughts about the mix and whether it works for the listing. Thank you in advance!

CONTEMPORARY, HICK-HOP INSTRUMENTALS are needed for a hard-working Music Licensing Company that's gearing up for NASCAR season!

They’re searching for a bunch of Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that combine COUNTRY sounds and HIP-HOP beats, and would fall within the general stylistic ballpark of the following references:

“Long Hard Times to Come” by Gangstagrass featuring T.O.N.E.-z

"Can I get a Outlaw” by Ryan Upchurch

"Country" by Upchurch X Adam Calhoun X Demun Jones

Although the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this pitch.

Please submit original, well-crafted Instrumentals that have a noticeable Country feel and vibe, fused with a fresh and current Hip-Hop approach. Your production should be polished, your beat should be banging, and your melodies should be easy on the ears. Utilize instrumentation that tastefully melds Country and Hip-Hop elements together. Electric guitars, acoustic guitars, banjos, fiddles, and even pedal steel are all elements that could work for this pitch.

Your submissions should be about 90 Seconds long, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/Stinger endings will work best. Do NOT copy the referenced material in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal. You’ll split any upfront sync fees 50/50. They’ll get 100% of the Publisher’s share, and you’ll get 100% of the Writer’s share. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Copyright. Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. Please submit as many Instrumental Cues as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - Short Critiques only. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Tuesday, March 19th, 2019. TAXI #Y190319HH

Cool one Lamar!
I didn't feel any hip hop in it though...
I think you will need the kick to be more up front and in your face
It needs a hip hop pattern
replace the hats with a more electronic sound
make sure your snare is louder
dial the bass down and let the kick take the majority of the low end work

Thanks for the detailed advice, Cass! I had a hard time analyzing the mix on the reference tracks. This is definitely a stretch for me.
